Abounaddara: What is to be done? (2011)
In 2011 the Syrian art collective Abounaddara began posting weekly short videos online in an attempt to record the daily life of the Syrian people at a time when the protests of the Arab Spring had turned into full-scale civil war.
Abounaddara describe their cinema as ‘emergency cinema’ that offers viewers alternative perspectives to the ones offered by the international news media. Their manifesto What is to be done? was posted online in 2011. It argues that society can be brought back together through shared artistic values and cultural pride.
